Boxers No Longer the Richest Athletes
Sep 28th 2011, 13:46

Professional athletes are making more money than ever before ... but boxers - on a relative basis - are losing ground. Sure, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are well compensated for their one or two fights a year, but there's a huge dropoff after them.

20 years ago, four of the top seven athletes in the Forbes ranking of the 20 highest paid athletes were boxers, with Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson occupying the top two slots. This year, Mayweather missed the cut due to inactivity so Pacquiao was the only fighter to crack the top 50! Pacman's estimated $25 million put him in a tie at #24.
