Former Heavyweight Contender Scott LeDoux Dies at 62
Aug 12th 2011, 12:21

Former heavyweight contender Scott LeDoux has died at the age of 62 after battling Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) for nearly three years. LeDoux, nicknamed the Fighting Frenchman despite being born and raised in Minnesota, fought professionally from 1974 to 1983 and compiled a career record of 33-13-4 with 22 KOs.

His resume reads like a heavyweight who's who for the decade he was an active fighter: George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Leon Spinks, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Mike Weaver, Greg Page, Duane Bobick, Gerrie Coetzee and Frank Bruno. LeDoux managed draws against Spinks and Norton, but lost to the others.

After retiring from the ring, LeDoux was a popular boxing commentator for ESPN and was one of the inaugural inductees into the Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame.
