Ward Outpoints Froch for Super Six Title
Dec 18th 2011, 13:47

Andre Ward easily outboxed Carl Froch to become the Super Six World Boxing Classic champion. With the win, the undefeated Ward retained his WBA super middleweight title and took Froch's WBC belt.

All twelve rounds were relatively similar with Ward using his superior speed and defense to build a commanding lead on the scorecards. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter was ever in any danger of going down. The official scores were closer than the fight itself at 115-113 twice and a more accurate 118-110.

Punch Stats: Ward landed 243 of 573 total punches (42%), while Froch landed only 156 of 683 (23%). Ward outjabbed Froch (107 to 47) and landed more power punches (136 to 109) as well.

Ward won the tournament - which took over two years to complete - with dominant wins over Mikkel Kessler (TKO 11), Allan Green (W 12), Arthur Abraham (W 12) and Froch (W 12). The 27-year-old Ward is now positioned for a big money unification bout with IBF champ Lucian Bute.
