Mayweather Remains a PPV Star
Oct 29th 2011, 16:24

It took a while, but the official pay-per-view numbers generated by the Sept. 17 Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz fight have finally been released ... and they're very impressive.

Mayweather-Ortiz generated 1.25 million buys for a total of $78.4 million, making it the second highest grossing non-heavyweight pay-per-view event of all-time.

Love him or hate, fight fans always tune in to watch Mayweather fight. Pretty Boy has now been involved in all three of the highest grossing non-heavyweight PPV events in boxing history: Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya ($136.9 million), Mayweather vs. Ortiz ($78.4 million) and Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley ($78.3 million).

Mayweather-Ortiz did a similar number of buys as Manny Pacquiao-De La Hoya and Pacquiao-Mosley but beat both in revenue due to its higher price tag ($60-$70!).
