Former champ and future Hall of Famer (if he ever retires long enough to be inducted)
Evander Holyfield recently turned 50 years old. Earlier this month, the Real Deal kind of, sort of announced his retirement for the [insert big number here]th time. Now he's not so sure, claiming he was simply "confused" when he announced plans to hang up his gloves and adding that he is "still a serious contender for the title".
Is Holyfield delusional, bored or simply desperate for cash? He has been out of the ring for almost 18 months and is only 8-7-1 with 1 no contest over the past 14 years. Even at 50, Holyfield could still compete with - and probably even beat - some of the top 50 heavyweights in the world today ... but what's the point? If his past is any indication, Holyfield will indeed seek to remain an active fighter ... as long as he can continue to find boxing commissions that will grant him a license.
