Who Is Teofilo Stevenson: Teofilo Stevenson represented Cuba as a heavyweight boxer in the 1972, 1976 and 1980 Summer Olympics and won the Gold medal each time.
Where Is Teofilo Stevenson Now:
Stevenson is perhaps the greatest boxer that never competed professionally. He remained loyal to Cuba and Fidel Castro and never defected, despite numerous offers to turn pro. Stevenson was reportedly even offered a lucrative bout against Muhammad Ali.
In 1999, Stevenson was arrested before boarding a United Airlines flight at Miami International Airport for allegedly headbutting a 41-year-old ticket agent. Stevenson claimed an anti-Cuban "agitator" was shouting insults at him and members of the Cuban national boxing team. Stevenson returned to Cuba after being released on bail and failed to attend subsequent court proceedings.
Stevenson is currently Vice President of the Cuban Boxing Federation. In that role, he commented on the status of two Cuban fighters who disappeared from the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in July 2007. The two were eventually arrested for overstaying their visas and were sent back to the island.
