40-year-old Vitali Klitschko retained his WBC heavyweight title with a unanimous - but tougher than expected - decision over Dereck Chisora of Great Britain. Chisora made headlines by slapping Klitschko's face at the weigh in, spitting water in the face of Wladimir Klitschko before the fight and getting arrested for brawling with fellow British heavyweight David Haye at the post-fight press conference.
During the fight, Chisora did better than expected. He was never a threat to actually win the fight but he showed a good chin and did what he could to compete with the bigger and more experienced Klitschko. He also benefited from the fact that Klitschko suffered a left shoulder injury in the third round and rarely used his left jab the rest of the way.
Scores were 119-111 and 118-110 twice, all for Klitschko. Punch stats had Klitschko landing 211 of 605 punches (35%) to 163 of 359 (45%) for Chisora.
While Klitschko didn't use the injury as an excuse, he was clearly disappointed at being unable to KO Chisora. Chisora said he got beat by the experience of Klitschko and called for a rematch. Haye wants a Klitschko rematch as well. Of course they do ... the Klitschkos have all the belts and offer the greatest opportunity for a big payday. Instead, Chisora and Haye should fight each other. Repeatedly. The Klitschkos should move on to other challengers and not waste any more time with either of these idiots.
